Transferring a Domain

Domains acquired through BL.INK are facilitated by our partner, Name.com. BL.INK seamlessly handles all the DNS configurations and renewals to make the experience as automated as possible.

BL.INK offers the ability to register and provision domains for users to quickly set up a domain in their account to be used for link shortening. Domains can be searched through the My Domains page and registered directly from the BL.INK account thanks to our partner Name.com.

Transferring a Domain away from BL.INK

Transferring a domain to a different registrar

When registering a domain with any registrar, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) places a 5-day hold before users can move the domain to another account with the same registrar and a 60-day hold before users can transfer the domain name to a different registrar.

To transfer the domain to a different registrar (outside of Name.com), please email us at help@bl.ink with the domain name and the registrar where the domain will be transferred. Our support team will assist in unlocking the domain to prepare it to be transferred and will provide the authorization code.

Once the authorization code has been obtained, simply contact the new registrar, initiate the transfer, and input the authorization code. Depending on the registrar, domain transfers can take up to 10 days to complete. 

Transferring a domain to a Name.com account

To move the domain to a Name.com account, please submit a ticket with the domain name and the Name.com account number. The transfer between two Name.com accounts is instant, and our support team will confirm as soon as the transfer is complete.

Transferring a Domain to BL.INK

While you can use your own domain name that you registered elsewhere with BL.INK, domain names cannot be transferred to BL.INK directly.  If you’re looking for a new domain registrar, we recommend our partner Name.com.
