Tags allow for grouping links to simplify managing links and analyzing link click data.
BL.INK offers the ability to add tags to links to help organize them into searchable groups. Users are able to view analytics and easily share results with other account users or clients based on tags. Tags can also help to simplify campaign reporting when used correctly.
Tags can be used in a number of different ways. Users can tag based on social media channel (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc), or campaign type (direct mail, television, flyers, etc). Many clients also use tags to differentiate between email type, client type (agencies can use tags to track data by client), language, location, or month/year.
Adding Tags to Links
Tags can be added when creating a new link or added to an existing link and can be added to both Smart Links or Branded Links.
To add a tag on a new branded link, select the domain from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Then hover over New Link and then click Branded Link. To add a tag while creating an unbranded link, select b.link from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. Then click New Link.
Follow the steps to create the link as normal: input the long URL, customize the keyword, and add a description (optional). Then in the upper right, click the first field, and a list of previously added tags will populate. Users can select from this list, or start typing in the field to add a new tag.
Note: When creating a new tag, users can also select the Globe checkbox to indicate a shared tag (which will be shared with all users on the account).
Click the tag to add it to the link. Once the tags have been selected, they will appear below the tag field.
To remove a tag from the link, click the x button next to the tag in the list. Once the tags have been added, save the link and start sharing.
To add a tag to an existing link, click Links on the left, then click My Links. Find the link from the list, and click the Edit (pencil) icon to the right. Find the tag icon (pictured above) in the upper right, and click in the field to add tags. When finished, click Update.
Creating New Tags
Tags can be added from within the New Link or Edit Link screen, but can also be added from the Admin page. To add new tags without creating or editing a link, click Admin in the left-hand navigation, and then click Tags.
To add a tag, type the desired tag in the first field, add a description or notes, and select the Globe if the tag to be should be shared with other users in the organization. When finished, click Add Tag.
Editing Existing Tags
To edit an existing tag, click Admin in the left navigation. Then click Tags. All tags will be displayed here.
Note: Only Admin users can edit existing shared tags. Regular users can edit their own tags, but cannot edit a tag that another user created.
Find the tag in the list, then click the Edit (pencil) icon on the right. From here, update the tag name, notes, and whether or not the tag is shared. Once the changes have been made, click Update to save.
Filtering by tags
BL.INK offers the ability to filter by tags in the Analytics section or when searching through existing links.
To filter Analytics by tags, navigate to Analytics on the left, and then click Overview.
In the filtering options at the top of the page, Tags is located on the right. Click the drop-down menu to select the tag to filter by, and then click Filter. This will return the click data for all links using the tag.
Similarly, to see a list of links using a specific tag, click Links and then select My Links. In the filtering options, to the right, select the drop-down menu labeled Tags, and select the tag to filter by. Then click Filter to return the list of links with the selected tag.
