To create a Smart Link, log in to BL.INK. The drop-down at the top should be set to Smart Links. If not, click the arrow and select Smart Links from the list.
Click New Link
Paste your long URL into the first text field
In the second field, you can view Smart Link options. BL.INK automatically generates the best option based on keywords found in the destination URL. The Show all choices button will show you more options. Choose the one you like best, then edit your keyword (the word or string of characters after the “/”) to further customize the link
Enter a description and add tags for your new Smart Link. For example, you can label according to social media channel, email type, campaign type, client, language, location, and more.
Tip: adding tags will make organizing, searching, filtering, sharing, analytics, and reporting much easier. However, if you don't add a tag to the link while it is being created, you can always go back and apply one later. For more information about tags, click here.
Now you're ready to copy and share your newly created Smart Link!
Notifications: select this box if you would like to receive an email notification for the first 10 clicks to monitor engagement.
Temporary Redirect 307: this is default redirect type selected in the BL.INK Platform. However, you can change this to a 301 Redirect by clicking on the Temporary Redirect (307) field on the right. For more information and questions around which redirect type to select, click here.
Archive: if you would like for this link to only be active for a specific period of time, you can enter an expiration date to the right of the Archive field. You can also click on Archive to change the option to Delete on a specified date instead.
Note: deleting the link will permanently remove all of the click analytics for that link when it deletes, so proceed with caution.
Once a Smart Link has been created, you can easily edit it if needed. To edit a single link, click Links and then My Links in the menu on the left side of the dashboard.
Locate the link you wish to edit in your list of links.
Click the edit (pencil) icon to the right of the link.
If you edited the destination of a link and saved, but your short URL doesn't appear to redirect to the new destination, the lag could be due to the redirect type you have chosen. If your default redirect is set to "Permanent (301)," most browsers will cache the destination and it is possible that your changes will not be reflected in a timely manner.
Clearing your browser cache should help to speed it up. You can also test your link by trying a different browser or by navigating to the link on a smartphone or tablet.
If you choose "Temporary (307)" as your default redirect type, you can avoid delays in redirect updates. This setting ensures that your short links always call to our platform and do not cache in your browser.
To update your default redirect type, follow the Edit Smart Links instructions listed above.
